The Tequila Sunrise is beautiful drink that is named just for that. The way the ingredients settle into the glass give off the look of a mesmerizing sunrise effect. Many patrons (and some bartenders) of today do not know that this drink actually has two recipes.
The original recipe was created by Gene Sulit in the 30’s – 40’s at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. Crème de Cassis is the denser ingredient that he used in his recipe causing the gradations in color. The more current recipe used today was altered by Bobby Lazoff and Billy Rice at the Trident Restaurant in California in the early 70’s. Grenadine Syrup is the denser ingredient that is used in their recipe to create the sunrise effect. Whichever recipe you or your customers prefer, this drink is sure to please.
