The Fuzzy Navel has been on the bar tops for some odd 30 years. It’s been said to be one of the first mixed drinks to pop up in the 80’s and was invented by bartender and founder of Bartender magazine, Ray Foley. Ray says he was cutting up an orange for a garnish and his friend, Jack Doyle, said that he “could smell the fuzz of Peachtree Schnapps through the orange juice”. Ray then looked down at the orange and saw “Navel” printed for Navel Orange. He put two and two together, thus the cocktail was born. “Fuzzy” refers to the peach, and “Navel” refers to the orange. This cocktail is quick and easy to make and is a favorite to many because it goes down smooth. It’s light on the alcohol but for customers who might want a stronger version, you can add 1 – 1 ½ oz of vodka to the mi for what’s called a Hairy Navel. The more vodka, the hairier it is.
