The Alabama Slammer, also known as the Southern Slammer, is a smooth cocktail that is great anytime. The history behind this drink is on the rocks, just as this refreshing beverage is served. Some claim the Alabama Slammer was made famous by quarterback Brett Farve; however, the drink was popular with college kids back in the 80’s. The famous cocktail was also served in pitchers in chain restaurants such as T.G.I. Fridays dating back as far as the 80’s. The Alabama Slammer first appeared in literature as early as the “Playboys Bartender’s Guide” by Thomas Mario in 1971. So, no matter which source you believe this drink evolved from, we can all agree that it is one to have in your little black book of recipes!

Commonly Used Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Southern Comfort
  • ½ oz Sloe Gin
  • 1 oz Amaretto
  • Orange Juice


  1. Pour all liquors into a highball glass filled with ice.
  2. Fill with orange juice and stir.
  3. Garnish with orange wheel and a cherry.
